Deputy Director Larry Majerus and K9 Bo

Larry Majerus has spent the last three decades in public safety. Majerus began his career in law enforcement in Lake City, Minn., as a police officer. In 1979, he relocated to Wyoming to work for the Douglas Police Department and, just five years later, became chief of that department.

He was the Douglas Police Chief from 1984 until his appointment to the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security in 2003. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1987 and earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in administration of justice from the University of Wyoming in 1993.

He is currently a Certified Peace Officer, credentialed as a Wyoming State Trooper, holds a Certification as a Explosive Detection Canine Handler and is a member of International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators.

K9 Bo is a male Yellow Labrador approximately 3 1/2 years old. Bo received his explosive detection training and was certified at the Vom Kaiserhofe Training Center in Lawrence, Kansas.

In September 2005 Bo was assigned to his handler Larry Majerus. Majerus and Bo have recertified annually since the initial certification.

The K9 team trains weekly and has utilized their skills in the following details:
Governor protection,
Legislative protection and Capitol security,
Assisted Secret Service with Vice Presidential detail, and
Responded to numerous local requests for Explosive Detection K9 assistance.
